Scarecrows In The Village At Peddler’s Village

Peddler’s Village is such a great location to visit in the Philadelphia area. It has a whimsical feel to it with very cute shops, restaurants, fun activities for the family, and plenty of areas to rest as well. (They are located at 100 Peddlers Village, Lahaska, PA 18931. It is north of Philly, and is about an hour drive.) Peddler’s Village often has different themed events depending on the time of the year, and when we went it was during their “Scarecrows In The Village” festival. This year, in 2023, you can check out the scarecrows from September 11th to October 29th.

As we walked through the winding brick pathways of the village, we were amazed at the creativity of the contestants, and also how detailed the scarecrows were! The artists really brought them to life, and they ranged from spooky, retro, funny, and even characters from popular shows right now. It is a really nice autumn themed activity that all ages can enjoy.

We really enjoyed all of them, but a personal favorite has to be the Mummer Scarecrow with its special history in connection to Philadelphia. The Mummer Parade is held every New Year’s Day in Philly, and is a festive tradition in which thousands of locals dress in lavish costumes and strut down the city’s main streets. There are String Bands that play string and reed instruments, Fancy Brigades that have amazing choregraphed theatrical routines, Fancies with extremely glamourous outfits, and of course the Comics and Wench Brigades that satirize issues, events, and people. It has been a family tradition since I can remember to watch this glamourous parade every New Year’s Day, and it is highly celebrated in our local community.

As we meandered about the beautiful shops, there was one in particular that caught our eye which was Nina’s Waffles & Ice Cream. We could smell the delicious waffles, even before we entered the shop, so we knew that this was a place we should check out!

They have a really nice variety of specialty waffles, as well as some pretty delicious ice cream flavors to choose from. We ended up getting a cookie dough flavor with waffle bites, and I have to highly recommend it if you stop by. I do have to say though, everything looked so good!

If you are traveling to the Philadelphia region, and want to meander about some pretty interesting small shops, delicious restaurants, and events, you will want to make a stop at Peddler’s Village. They really go all out for the different seasons, and it is such a pretty area. Let me know in the comments if you have visited this spot, and what you thought of it as well. I hope you are having a wonderful day, and remember to click the like and subscribe button!

I highly recommend the book “Hiking Waterfalls In Pennsylvania.” It specifically maps out where you can find waterfalls in each area and region of the state. If you are an outdoor adventurer, you will want to check this out!

  1. It’s neat that they have different themed events depending on the time of year. I love the display of all the different types of scarecrows. And what a great picture of you and your husband.
