The Bandstand at Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island is an ethereal and elegant place that you will want to visit on your travels to the area. It is located on the left side of Roosevelt Lake. The Bandstand was originally created in 1895, which makes sense, since in the 1890s, open air concerts were the pastime of choice.

When we arrived in Providence, my husband and I knew that we wanted to hike through the iconic Roger Williams Park, and explore all the areas within it. As we strolled through the paths in the park by the Roosevelt Lake, we were enticed by the noise of water fountains drifting through the air. Suddenly,Ā we found ourselves at a brilliant and opulent building that stood out boldly by the greenery surrounding the waterway.

When the building came into view, I must say that I was truly entranced by its grandeur and beauty. You can not help but feel immersed into its history as your eyes are dazzled by its ornate structure.

In 1915, architect John Hutchins Cady and builder Thomas F. Cullinan revamped the Bandstand to more of what we see in the building today. It was comprised of a combination of copper, papier-mâché , and wood. As you are viewing it, please take note of the lovely Corinthian columns that support the 30-foot (about 9.1 meters) diameter roof.

In the 1890s through the early 1900s, the Bandstand could accommodate about 1,600 people listening to the concerts, with some individuals attending in canoe boats right on the water. The concerts were financed by the Union Railroad Company, and park concessionaires. One of the most popular bands that prompted a visit was the extremely popular local Reeves American Band.

Today, the Bandstand is still undergoing renovations to enable future generations to enjoy it as we can today. It is truly one of the most delightful spots that you can visit in the park. I believe if you listen closely, you can still hear the music waltzing through the air. (Or at least the breeze catching the water fountains.)

-Hiking Boots
The more that we explore new places, the more important it is to wear safe hiking gear, and of course hiking boots. I really love my hiking boots because they feel super cozy, warm, flexible, and of course the most crucial element of all for safety is that they are non slip! When I have gone hiking for hours at a time, they are really comfortable, which is great when you are traveling on the road.
