One of the most tranquil and relaxing places that you can visit within the Roger Williams Park is the lovely Japanese Garden. It is free to enter, and I would recommend setting aside about an hour to explore it. The garden is a wonderful place for quiet reflection, and is extremely popular for painting, drawing, and art classes.

If you are traveling to this region in Providence, Rhode Island for the first time, you will find that the main park (Roger Williams Park) as a whole is about 427 acres, so it is pretty large! It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. The park’s namesake, Roger Williams, was the founder of Providence, and also of the state of Rhode Island.

Attached is a map, which will help you navigate the park and all the areas within it. The Japanese Garden is located right by the Carousel Village off Maple Ave.

We stumbled upon the garden after walking around the Carousel Village (a cute little amusement park) and immediately, I was completely in awe of the elegance and beauty of it. Luckily, we even had the garden to ourselves! It is truly its own oasis within the park, and it was so much fun taking photos there and enjoying the ambiance.
The garden itself was built out of the former Monument Lake by the Depression-era federal work program called the Works Progress Administration. After the program completed the area in 1936, it became a very popular area in Providence for wedding photography.

The Japanese Lantern Statue within the garden is one of 14 identical ones that were originally dedicated to Japan in 1841. Japan gifted two to Providence in 1954 to commemorate the centennial of Commodore Perry’s mission to Japan. The Parks Department also installed this gift into the park in the same year.

-Hiking Boots
The more that we explore new places, the more important it is to wear safe hiking gear, and of course hiking boots. I really love my hiking boots because they feel super cozy, warm, flexible, and of course the most crucial element of all for safety is that they are non slip! When I have gone hiking for hours at a time, they are really comfortable, which is great when you are traveling on the road.
