The Rose Bridge Farm & Sanctuary is such a wonderful place to visit if you want to see adorable animals, and also support a great cause! They are located at 1314 Limekiln Pike, Dresher, Pennsylvania which is only about a 40 minute drive from Philadelphia. They offer glamping, goat hiking, farm animal husbandry, story time, workshops, and so much more! You will have to book your appointment ahead of time, because spots often fill up pretty quickly for the activities. (I will link their website to the bottom of this post.)

Ever since we visited Iceland several years ago (if you have not yet, make sure you read that series) I have been obsessed with sheep, and goats as well! It was very shocking and cool to see the goats ability to scale mountain ranges with ease. I was so delighted a year ago when my husband surprised me with a goat hiking experience hosted by the Rose Bridge Farm & Sanctuary at the local Wissahickon Valley Park.

As we arrived at the park, the expert from the farm provided every couple with their very own goat to walk. The animals each had a sturdy harness on a leash, and they were very excited to go on their hike! They seemed pretty well trained, and you could tell that they most likely had gone on the path before. The expert told us ahead of time that if for some reason, if you let go of the leash for a second, the goat would probably just stand there and wait for you. I also liked that she went over safety information, and answered any questions we had about the experience ahead of time.

The experience reminded me of walking a dog (just a little larger) and it seemed like a fun adventure for them as well as us. As a side note, the goats do get afraid of actual dogs, and they will hide behind you if they see them. If you have a dog of your own, I would recommend not bringing it to the goat walk since they do have this fear. Several times, we did see people hiking through Wissahickon that had dogs, and we just walked the goats to the side of the path so that they could pass.

The goat expert that lead the expedition through the park was so knowledgeable, and really made us feel confident during the walk. She even mentioned that it was possible (if you live in a place where it is allowed) to have a goat for a pet. I would imagine it is a good idea to have a decent amount of land before attempting this, and also a warm housing structure for them during colder days, since the goats prefer warmer temperatures.

Several times during the hike, the goats were given treats and snacks. Of course after, they each received a large bowl of water too. I really respected how well the goats were taken care of!
If you are looking for a fun, educational, and inspiring activity to do close to Philadelphia, I would highly recommend checking out the Rose Bridge Farm & Sanctuary. They truly do care for these amazing farm animals, and it is really cool to see them thriving in their environment. Let me know in the comments if you have visited this farm before, and what you thought of it. I hope that you are having a wonderful day, and remember to click the like and subscribe button!

Pennsylvania has some of the most amazing hiking areas in the country. If you are visiting, or live in the area, I highly recommend the book “Hiking Waterfalls In Pennsylvania.” It specifically maps out where you can find waterfalls in each area and region of the state. If you are an outdoor adventurer, you will want to check this out!

This looks like a fun spot to spend an afternoon and fawn over all these cute goats. I had no idea there was such a thing as goat hiking! I love it!
Thank you very much! The goats seemed to really enjoy the walk!
I have heard of walking with llamas and alpaca but not goats here in the UK. I suspect it could catch on though. Love that photo of the little white goat btw. Goats are very cute and super mischievous. I remember some goats who lived on a farm campsite, they ended up eating a couple’s tent and belongings! X
Thank you very much! Alpaca walking sounds like a fun activity too. That is crazy with the goats on the campsite!
