It felt as though I had the longest pregnancy ever. For most of my life, things have seemed to speed up, but for some reason, being pregnant slowed down each and every day for me. Since this was my first pregnancy, it may have been the complete newness of the situation that enabled this to be an expansive experience.
At the beginning of my pregnancy, I had a wicked horrible nausea that was induced by anything and everything. The only foods that I could really hold down with some peace were spicy Mexican dishes such as burritos teeming with jalapenos, and tacos. It does not make any sense but that was my go to cuisine.
Even though the days felt as if they were creeping to the level of a waddling turtle meandering about a pond, before I knew it, our baby girl was here, and kicking into the world! They say that being a parent changes your life, but I was not prepared with how instant the experience and emotions all flood into being. Truly in seconds, everything is different. It has been a beautiful chaotic mess, and I am grateful for it all.
The first couple weeks after we brought her home were really special, insanely busy, and a little scary at the same time. As a parent of a newborn, your only schedule is your babies needs, and your day (and night) revolves around this completely. We had a tentative timing schedule for feedings and diaper changes, but at the end of the day, your baby will let you know when they are hungry or have anything that needs addressing! The first week that we were home from the hospital, my husband and I were thrilled if we even had a couple hours of sleep.
After the first month, even though everything still felt fairly new, we started to get in a rhythm of it. I think that sometimes, even if you are nervous new parent, just being there and doing what needs to be done will make you more confident as the time goes on. Everyone will tell you that your instincts kick in, and this is very true.
Now that we are not in the “Wild West” newborn stage, I already miss it! The strangest thing is that even with all the difficulties and sleep deprivation, you start to realize how special every moment is, and how important it is to truly be engaged in it. Every minute of our lives are a gift, and you feel this deeply as a parent, and you just hope that you can be an encouraging influence on this little person.
I am looking forward to creating more travel/wellness articles on this blog, and in the future you may even see different family friendly vacation spots or activities in addition to the regular posts. Some upcoming guides that you can look forward to on here are from Rhode Island, and Pittsburgh which I can not wait to share with you! Thank you all for being so supportive, and I am very excited to write again!
I do have a book recommendation for anyone that is becoming a parent out there that I found very useful, and it whisked away a lot of stress while reading it. The book is called “The Simplest Baby Book In The World” and it takes you step by step on how to set things up for a new baby. It is a straightforward guide, and we have leaned into it a lot to it as we have decided on which baby essentials that we really need. It has awesome advice from experts, parent hacks, sleep scheduling, and various first-year basics that will make your life easier. There are a ton of books out there, and the way this one was set up in an easy to understand format was really helpful, especially as a first time parent!

Thank you very much Marion!
Congratulations on your sweet baby girl! I was the total opposite and lived off buttered noodles and crackers. Glad to see you back on the blog 🙂
Thank you Lyssy! I am excited for you too 🙂
Congratulations to you all!
Thank you Jyothi!
Congrats!! I know what you mean about how time seems to stand still when pregnant, especially in comparison to when the baby is born! I found the first trimester to be pretty tough too. My nausea wasn’t too bad, but I was just so tired all the time. You’re absolutely right to cherish all the moments. They grow and change so quickly. My little one is nine months now and loves crawling around. She’s starting to pull herself up to stand, which is a good reminder that we need to do more baby proofing!
Thank you very much, and that is a good reminder for baby proofing! That is sweet that your baby is crawling, I am looking forward to that stage too. I agree, even though its only been about 3 months, our daughter has changed so much and is getting so much bigger. 🙂
Congratulations, good to see you back blogging. xx
Thank you very much 🙂
Congratulations to you guys! Becoming a mother for the first time is one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have. My first pregnancy felt slow and apparently, this is according to my family practitioner, it was a signal from my body to slow down. and to give it time to adjust to the incredible changes happening inside.
Enjoy the newborn bliss and take the time to observe your little one—watching the rise and fall of the tiny chest, and sweet and precious faces. It can be calming to sit and snuggle them while listening to them breathe. You can almost forget their days and nights are flipped. (Just almost.) Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
Thank you Aiva, I appreciate it 🙂 That definitely makes sense with the timing of the pregnancy!
